2015: Twelve Months of Backpacking

2015_collage

In January of this year I went winter camping for the first time – and loved it! And so, with one backpacking trip already under my belt, I set a goal for myself: in 2015 I will go backpacking at least once in every month of the year.

It’s an ambitious goal, but not too ambitious. I am aware of my limitations and I try to work with them rather than feel depressed that I can’t go where I want to go. I still have symptom flares, for example, and even when I’m at my best my energy level is low; four miles per day is currently my limit. However, I’m very grateful that I’m capable of hiking again, even if the hikes are very short. I look forward to experiencing all of this year’s seasons out on the trail! UPDATE: as of August, my daily limit has increase to 20+ miles! I’m getting stronger every month!

UPDATE: in December we achieved our goal! What an awesome year!
